Racing
by timIt has been awhile, but I finally had a chance to race my mountain bike last weekend. It was 40 miles of wet muddy FUN. It was a last minute decision to go. We had no place to stay when we got there. I went up with Joe Nolan. I slept in the van and Joe slept in the tent. Good weather for camping, nice temperature, only one mosquito and I finally killed the bastard at in the morning. Nothing more annoying than a mosquito buzzing in your ear. Sleeping in the van got me fantasizing about VW campervans. Always wanted one, hmmm, maybe now is my time to start looking for one. Of course I want a diesel so I can burn bio-diesel in it. Yep, my next quest, to find a VW campervan. OH! And I could put a solar panel on top to charge the batteries. OH this could be fun…..I sure enjoyed the camping adventure. Yes, sleeping in the van was enough of an adventure for me. One mosquito, porto-potties, breakfast served at the food tent, and thank heaven for the coffee hut. How could anyone survive the great outdoors without coffee? Not me, that is for sure. A wild adventure worthy of a book, or at least a comic strip. I think what I enjoyed the most about the weekend was going up and meeting the gang form Platteville at the race. We had Kyle, Nicole, Seth, Maggie, Joe and Katie. A special treat was meeting Gretchen and Tim Monte. Old racing friends from the 80’s (yea that’s right, before suspension and clip less pedals, and it was up hill all the way around the course). The weekend was great. It felt good to push my self to my limits; I met lots of old friends, hung out with all my gang. It was great.Hope to make the next one; I will let you know if I go.
so glad you had a fantastic time. probably brought you back to the days you were racing a lot. i hope you’ll be able to continue this fun, energizing activity! and the camaraderie sounds great! however, i’ve gotta get you in a tent. (for more reasons than one.) we’ll have you roughing it in no time…and you can squish the mosquitoes on the side of the tent so you have some stuff to fry up for breakfast to go with your coffee.
YO timmay. I enjoyed reading about your longing for a camper van. If I ever gave you any advice… now… GO FIND ONE!! and have fun with it.
it was good seeing you at the race, wish i could have spent more time with you guys. I do have to say that I was a little tired afterwards, which left for many indecisive moments and well… a lot of time wasted.
Get this, we did the state road race today and am in madison right now. It is about 11:30ishpm and we just got home from watching jazz fest at the union… rebecca and I were sharing a beer, when I was telling a story– of course, talking with my hands (as well as my mouth). Well, I was holding my cell phone and ended up throwing it right in my beer! I froze and couldn’t believe that it was actually submerged, then my hands couldn’t grab it- it was hilarious. Anyhow, it is all apart now, drying. Hopefully it works in the morning!
Have a good night. I hope all is well.
Dream of VW’s….
