I am not talking about Bra or Foot size, I am refering to a Winter Adventure Race. It is a bike race from Dubuque to Dyersville to Dubuque. It is a 60 mile out an back event.  The coarse will follow most of the Heritage trail , some secondary roads, and some of the scenic snowmobile trails. I like these events, but this one will be tough, since it is in January. I am a wuss when it comes to cold. So, what do I do? I signed up. Now I am commited to stay in some form of shape, whether that shape be round or slender, I am not sure.  The fun part of an event like this is setting up the equipment. I just made my ice tires for the event. I had some ice tires already, but since I now ride a 29″ wheeled Mtn Bike, I needed to make some new ones.   I also have to figure out what clothing to wear and take with me. The race may last as long as six hours, having clothing options during the race is important.

Even though it is a race, It may be more of an adventure for me, to see if I can just finish it. My major concern is freezing up. As I said, I am a wuss in the cold. I have aquired some winter biking boots to keep my toes warm, and I purchaced some of those toe and foot warmer things, and  I borrowed (form my Father) some four wheeler mitts to slide my hands into. The next big decision is, do I grow the obligatory winter adventurer beard? hmmmm…. Have to think a bit more about that one.

if you want to learn more about the event go to Lance’s blog => http://savedbythebike.blogspot.com

see you in the snow
